Recently, NewReleaseTuesday.com requested artists to answer a few questions for 4th of July. They will be promoting the official release of my new album on July 10, so I was happy to oblige. And after answering their questions, I quickly realized I could get more mileage out of my words by sharing them here as well.
1. What is one of your strongest 4th Of July memories?
I’ll never forget the very first time I heard one of my songs on the radio. It was July 4, 1994, and we were driving home from a holiday gathering when “Open My Heart” from my debut release, CHILD OF THE FATHER, came over the airwaves. I remember quickly calling my parents so they could tune in before the song was over. It would later become my very first #1 single on all three formats: INSPO, AC, and CHR.
2. What is your favorite firework to set off?
One of my favorite fireworks were those angry little flower blossoms that spun around on the ground making a buzzing sound while changing from one color to the next. I can’t remember what they’re called, but it was fun to see how long they would last. And, of course, they never lasted as long as you wanted them to.
3. Fourth Of July is a celebration of freedom. How do you find true freedom in Christ throughout your everyday living?
One of my favorite quotes from Corrie Ten Boom speaks of the importance of forgiving others. She said, “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” There was a time when I was faced with the seemingly impossible task of forgiving someone who had deeply wounded me. I knew I didn’t want to remain stuck with bitterness and resentment, so I cried out to God to teach me how to forgive. Over time, as I repeatedly chose to speak God’s Word aloud in my situation, I eventually experienced true freedom in Christ through the power of forgiveness. He set me free and changed my life forever. And that’s something to celebrate!
Hope you’ve enjoyed this little Q&A. Now go light some fireworks!
